Mutual Funds: U.S. Stocks, Junk Bonds & Treasuries Suffer Weekly Outflows |
BARRON'S - March 25, 2011 - By Murray Coleman
U.S.-focused stock mutual funds saw $726 million in net outflows in the week ended Wednesday. Meanwhile, international stock mutual funds had inflows of $601 million, says Lipper.
Taxable bond funds had outflows of $454 million. Municipal bond funds had outflows of $659 million, marking 19 straight weeks of negative flows for the category totaling more than $28.4 billion.
The taxable bond losses were skewed by two big high-yield Fidelity funds shuttering. With those counted, junk bond mutual funds had a record $2.8 billion in net outflows. That figure’s sure to be revised down once analysts determine which Fidelity funds received the closed funds’ assets.
But it’ll still likely to wind up as a second-straight week of outflows in junk bond mutual funds.
