S&P Starts Bond Index That Tracks Non-U.S. Securities |

Standard & Poor’s started a corporate bond index that allows U.S. investors to trade securities issued by overseas companies.
The International Corporate Bond Index, denominated in dollars, tracks investment-grade debt issued in euros, pounds, yen and seven other currencies, the New York-based ratings firm said in a statement today
U.S. investors are “increasingly looking to invest in global corporate bonds as they seek additional diversification and look for ways to protect themselves against the potential threat of a weakening U.S. dollar,” James Rieger, vice president of S&P Indices in New York, said in the statement.
The euro climbed to its highest level in a week against the dollar on optimism European Union officials will take further action to halt the region’s debt crisis. The euro advanced to as high as $1.2672 today, the strongest since May 13. The currency, which touched a four-year low on May 19, has gained 1.3 percent versus the greenback this week, the most since September.
