S&P Rebrands Family of S&P/Investortools Municipal Bond Indices

Standard & Poor's - Published: Thursday, Sep. 15, 2011

NEW YORK, Sept. 15, 2011 -- /PRNewswire/ -- S&P Indices announced today that the S&P/Investortools Municipal Bond Indices family have been rebranded the S&P Municipal Bond Indices. The change, which is effective immediately, allows the former S&P/Investortools Municipal Bond Indices to evolve alongside S&P Indices' family of widely followed municipal bond indices which includes the S&P AMT-Free Municipal Series.

The S&P Municipal Bond Index, the headline index within the S&P Municipal Bond Indices, tracks over US$ 1.2 trillion in municipal debt and is a broad, extensive, market value-weighted index following approximately 57,000 individual bond issues that are exempt from U.S. federal income taxes or subject to the alternative minimum tax (AMT). The large number of constituents included in the S&P Municipal Bond Index seeks to provide investors with an in-depth data set for performance attribution analysis into sectors and individual states. The majority of the indices in this family have over a decade of live index data.

"Over the last 12 years the S&P Municipal Bond Indices have become an integral component of the work flow of municipal bond portfolio managers and analysts," says JR Rieger, Vice President of Fixed Income Indices at S&P Indices. "Investortools' extensive knowledge of the municipal bond market and commitment to these indices has played a critical role in allowing these indices to gain market acceptance and success. S&P Indices will continue to evolve this family of indices as the dynamics of the municipal bond marketplace continues to change."
