Corporate Bond Risk Rises in Europe, Credit-Default Swaps Show |

The cost of insuring against default on European corporate debt rose, reversing an earlier decline, according to traders of credit-default swaps.
Contracts on the Markit iTraxx Crossover Index of 50 companies with mostly high-yield credit ratings climbed 1.5 basis points to 741, according to JPMorgan Chase & Co. at 3:30 p.m. in London, after earlier dropping to as low as 709. An increase signals a deterioration in perceptions of credit quality.
The Markit iTraxx Europe Index of 125 companies with investment-grade ratings was up 2.5 basis points at 175.5 basis points. The Markit iTraxx Financial Index linked to senior debt of 25 banks and insurers rose 2.5 basis points to 244.5, while the subordinated gauge pared its decline, falling 10 basis points on the day to 470.
