TREASURY DIRECT PROGRAM:A program for individual investors to buy treasury securities.
The US Treasury has made great strides in providing investors with the opportunity to buy and sell through Treasury Direct.
Treasury Direct allows individual investors to participate in the Federal Reserve's regularly scheduled auctions of three-, six-and 12-month Treasury bills; two-, three-, five- and 10-year notes; and 30-year bonds, plus Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS) and savings bonds. Interest is a paid into the investor's Treasury Direct account, as is a security's par value at maturity.
