History of the Australian Wildlife Gold Coin

Australian Wildlife Gold Coin Review

If you're familiar with Australian coins, you probably already know that the Perth Mint produces many coins showcasing the wild animals on the island. Australia has many unique and famous animals, and some that have been featured on different Australian coins have included kookaburras, emus, kangaroos, koalas, saltwater crocodiles, wombats, and more.

This Australian Wildlife Gold coin is different from the many other coins released by the Perth Mint, however. Unlike the other coins that have only featured one animal each, this coin features three famous animals: the kangaroo, koala, and kookaburra.

If you are looking for the right Australian gold coin to add to your portfolio, this unique option featuring these three famous animals may be the right choice for you.

Australian Wildlife Gold Coin Design

We briefly touched on the design of this coin above, but let's take a closer look at its obverse and reverse designs.

Obverse

Jody Clark's "fifth portrait" of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is the featured image on the obverse of this coin. In this famous portrait of the Queen, which is also used on many other Australian coins, Her Majesty is shown looking to the right while wearing the Royal Crown, a necklace and earrings.

A round border surrounds the Queen's portrait with the words "Elizabeth II Australia" along the top. 25 Dollars, the coin's face value, is stamped along the bottom of the border.

Reverse

The reverse of this coin is where it's at for Australian wildlife lovers. The back is loosely sectioned into three parts, each depicting a different animal. A large Australian kookaburra sits on a tree branch on the left side of the coin, looking to the right. Next to the kookaburra is a hopping kangaroo, and below the kangaroo is a close up of a koala's face.

"Australian Wildlife" is written at the top of the coin, ¼ oz 9999 gold is written under the kangaroo, and a P for Perth Mint is stamped over the koala's ear.

Australian Wildlife Gold Coin Value

Don't be fooled by the $25 (Australian dollars) face value of this gold coin. As a ¼-ounce nearly pure gold coin, its actual value is much higher. If you've been following the spot price of gold, you know that ¼-ounce of gold will be worth significantly more than just $25.

In fact, the actual value of this coin may be even greater than just a quarter of the daily spot price of gold. As with other premium coins, the unique design can impact the value. Additionally, supply and demand from investors can also cause the price to rise.

The spot price of gold doesn't remain stable. It fluctuates every day based on a variety of factors. Because of this, the exact value of the Australian Wildlife Coin will also vary from day to day. Call your preferred precious metals dealer for up-to-date pricing information.

Can you add Australian Wildlife Gold coins to a Gold IRA? Before we look at this question, let's take just a moment to discuss what exactly a Gold IRA is.

Gold IRAs, which may also be called Precious Metals IRAs, are one type of Self-Directed IRA. With a Gold IRA, you can invest in physical gold coins and bars in your retirement account, rather than (or in addition to) holding the traditional stocks and bonds that most individuals hold.

Gold IRAs make it possible to diversify your investments while also receiving the tax benefits that IRA holders receive.

However, while a Gold IRA allows you to invest in physical precious metals, you can just add any gold items to your account. The gold coins or bars you invest in must be at least 99.5% pure.

This Australian Wildlife Gold coin surpasses this minimum purity requirement. With its 99.99% purity rating, it can most definitely be added to a Gold IRA.

So, now that you know that you can add the Australian Wildlife Gold coin to an IRA, what do you think you're going to do? A precious metals provider can work with you to open and fund your account if you think you're reading to begin adding gold coins, such as the Australian Wildlife coin, to your portfolio.
