The Kermode Spirit Bear is a subspecies of the black bear. However, unlike black bears, Spirit Bears have white fur, which is how they got their name. You may also hear Kermode Bears called Ghost Bears, also because of the color of their fur.
A recessive gene is responsible for the white coloring of a Kermode bear. So, it is possible that two black bears could mate and give birth to a white bear, if both black bears carried the special (MC1R) gene responsible for the white coloring.
It has been hypothesized that white Kermode Spirit bears are better fish hunters than black bears because their white fur is more difficult to see against the color of the sky, compared to the darker fur of a black bear.

The obverse of this coin was designed by Susana Blunt. Blunt won a contest set by the Royal Canadian Mint to develop a portrait of the Queen for use on the country's currency. The portrait shows the queen wearing a pearling necklace (but no crown) looking to the right. Blunt's image has been used on Canadian currency since 2003. "Elizabeth II D. G. Regina," meaning Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, the Queen is written on the two sides of the coin around the Queen's profile. The bottom of the coin reads 10 Dollars (for the $10 Canadian Dollar face value).
Reverse
The reverse design of this spectacular coin shows a Kermode Spirit Bear with a fish in his mouth. The bear is walking in the water and appears to have just caught the fish. The bear design is centered on the reverse of the coin, surrounded by a circular border. The upper portion of the borders reads "Canada" and the issue year, while the bottom part of the border displays the weight and purity level (fine gold, ¼ ounce, .9999 pure).
