Obverse

Gold Sceptre Guinea Review

A stunning portrait of Queen Elizabeth II graces the obverse of this coin. Raphael Maklouf created the portrait for the Royal Mint of London in 1985. In Maklouf's portrait, the Queen if looking to the right wearing the Royal Diadem, the crown she traditionally wears when going to the State Opening of Parliament. A necklace is around the Queen's neck and earrings are hanging from her ears.

Surrounding the image of the Queen is a round border that reads: "£25," "St. Helena," "Queen Elizabeth II," "2020," and "East India Company."

Reverse

Gold Sceptre Guinea Review

The reverse of this coin is really something to behold. It is designed to represent each of the four countries—Britain, France, Scotland, and Ireland—that experienced so much success with trading thanks to the East India company. In the design, each country is represented by a shield (The Three Lions of England, the fleur de lis of France, the Harp of Ireland, and the House of Hanover's coat of arms).

These four shields are arranged in a cross design. Between each of the shields, in an X-design, four sceptres are shown coming out from a small elephant at the center of the shields. "1/4 ounce," "Guinea," and "999.9 Gold" are written around the circular border that surrounds the shield design.

Gold Sceptre Guinea Value

The Gold Sceptre Guinea's face value is £25 in Saint Helena. However, the actual value of this coin is significantly higher. Even just a quarter of the spot price of gold (based on 1 ounce) is much more than £25. In addition to the value of the metal alone, the unique design on the coin may increase its value depending on supply and demand.

If you've been keeping an eye on the spot price of gold, then you likely already know that it can fluctuate from one day to the next. Due to these fluctuations, we can't enter a specific value for this coin in this article, because if we did, it would likely be incorrect after just a few days.

Your precious metals dealer can help you find the up-to-date price for the Gold Sceptre Guinea if you think you'd like to add it to your portfolio.
